I Won!

Another hectic day starting off at 7:00 a.m. when I had to get on the computer to sign up for my fitness class. I managed to get through to the website pretty quickly (all the summer programs for children were also becoming available at the same time) and got a spot in the Osteo Fit class I have been attending in the Spring session. It starts at the beginning of July.

It was raining very heavily when I set off for an early grocery run and I was pretty much soaked when I got home and had to change into dry clothes. After breakfast it was time to set off for the Probus Club meeting (still raining heavily) which featured a travel specialist as the speaker. She focused on four European capitals, three of which I had visited but not in great detail so it was interesting to hear and see some of the sights I missed. On my Danube cruise a few years ago we stopped at Budapest, Bratislava and Vienna but I have never been to Prague which was her other destination. Maybe another time!

Straight from there to Bridge where we had another good turnout. I had some great cards and good partners and came out third highest in scoring with over 3000 points. For that I received the princely sum of $5 which will go back into the pot for the next five games! This was my first win ever so particularly thrilling.

The pool is finally up and running after a couple of delays. I'm just waiting for the guys to finish to take a final photo, shouldn't be long. They were delayed today with the weather.

FYI my grocery bill this morning was over $60, a new high, and it did not include any meat - horrible! I don't know how families with children are coping. I used some PC points to keep it to $50.

Phew! That was a busy day and tomorrow I am off to Stratford to see the musical Chicago!, lunch included. The bus leaves at 8:00 a.m. so I will have to get my butt in gear early! By Thursday I will be glad to have a peaceful day at home.

  1. Your pool is very inviting! How often do you shop for groceries? Our prices haven't gone up too much so far, but I am sure they will.

    1. I usually do a big shop once a week but often have to go back (or try another store) for things I missed so there will probably be another $10 on that total before next week.

  2. I know, I worry about our sons and how they are going to cope with these rising prices. We will be taking some outside things to the youngest to save him a bit of money, and giving him a helping hand fixing some of the things around his new house that the inspector thought could use a bit of work.

Enjoy your day in Stratford. We saw the musical Chicago here at the Globe Theater before Covid hit and shut everything down. Loved it.

    God bless.

    1. The show was amazing - such energy and we had great seats! That's good that you can help out your kids - I try to do the same occasionally.

  3. I am exhausted just reading about your day. Enjoy the day out. We are struggling with high veg prices due to the awful floods we had. Lettuces can be $12 each.

    1. Thankfully tomorrow will be quieter. Although I had a great time today it was a very long day and now I am beat! I don't think our lettuces are quite that expensive. Now $2 for an avocado is too much for me to take.

  4. Woo hoo! Well done.
The pool looks lovely and so inviting.
Prices are shocking here too and quality is going down. Sign of the times. xx

    1. I don't think they will ever come down. We will just have to adjust.

  5. Pool looks great! And congrats on the mega-win at bridge. ;-) Trips to the grocery can be quite shocking when you get to the register, can't they. Unfortunately, I don't think we are anywhere near the end of this. So hopefully we can eat "lighter" in summer and save some $$$.

    1. I am certainly not eating as much meat for sure. Having said that, I had roast beef at my lunch out today - first time in a couple of years!

  6. Congrats on the win at cards. The pool is looking very inviting, just wish the weather would warm up - 9(c) this morning upon rising! I joke with Mr Man that we are going to have to take turns eating. Now the dairy farmers are wanting an increase & not that they don't deserve it, but how can we all continue to manage if the basics of milk & bread become luxury items! I hope you enjoy your day out to Stratford - what a treat.

    1. I think we have been spoiled in the past as a lot of food items were subsidized. Time to bite the bullet and pay what they actually cost! The lunch and show were a long awaited treat for sure. Also the company!

  7. I am getting my bathing suit ready as your pool looks so inviting. Congrats on you win. If you ever have a chance to visit Prague do so, Hubby and I enjoyed it when we were on our Danube cruise. Shopping for us yesterday, we stocked up on some specials, thus bill was higher than usual. Have a great time in Stratford.

  8. Drop by any time - but check with me first that the heater is switched on! Good idea to get the specials when they are offered. I don't usually buy extra quantities as I just have a small freezer and not much cupboard space.
