Was it a Tornado?

I was going to write more about my garden but we had a massive storm a few hours ago so that takes precedence. First I heard was an emergency "Take cover" message on my phone. Then the sky got really dark and the winds whipped up. The rain was torrential for a while. It was pretty spectacular!

Everyone was out on the street after it passed over assessing the damage. One neighbour had a tree come down on his garage roof which is quite damaged. Another couple of houses lost part of their roofing. I got a small scratch on my car from flying debris but think I got off easy. I will have my handyman check my roof to make sure it is still intact.

Before the storm I took this photo of a corner of my garden. It seems to have survived untouched, thank goodness!

Bleeding Hearts and Violets look nice together. They have both spread from the original plants and come up faithfully every year.

  2. Glad you emerged unscathed. Your violets are beautiful. My dear old dad used to buy my mum a bunch of violets from a seller at the station and bring them home in his briefcase. They were always a little squashed but smelt divine.

  4. How scary. Thankfully you are safe. Let's hope your roof is too.

  5. I would have liked to have seen that! You may think me slightly crazy but I do love storms, the bigger the better. Nonetheless, I have never experienced a tornado so perhaps in those circumstances I would rapidly change my mind. Very glad you and your garden are safe. That little corner looks lovely. Take care. 6. Oh my that sounds like quite the storm. Glad you escaped any real damage and no one was hurt, and I hope your neighbors are able to get their problems solved quickly and easily.

  7. Yikes, you really did have some weather. I read about it and saw that it extended pretty far. We weren't affected here. I love your bleeding hearts. I used to have some, but they just faded away. -Jenn

  8. We had quite a storm too, lots of damage in the city, however, we only had a few small limbs come down from the trees in the garden, we were fortunate. We have not had a storm like that for a couple of years or more.
    Love your lilac header.

  9. I have been seeing pictures of the storm you got (well quite a bit of your province got as well as a bit of Quebec). I think you had what we call a plow wind out here on the prairies. They can do even more damage than tornados.

    God bless.

  10. Thanks everyone for your kind thoughts. It was a scary time but over quickly, not a tornado after all! Only thing I lost was the cap on my chimney - no idea where it landed so I will have to get another one. Today was cooler but much more pleasant.

  11. Such a big beautiful bleeding heart plant & it does look lovely with the violets. That Derecho that went through on Saturday did a lot of damage in our region & we were without power for over 8 hours. A very scary few hours. Glad you & your home at OK & who knows maybe your chimney cap will get found.
