I hope this will be the final episode of my finger injury. I finally saw the doctor at the Fracture clinic today and, after another X-ray and an interminable wait, (actually the whole process took just over two hours) he sent me to an occupational therapist who specializes in hand trauma. She outfitted me with a better splint - not as inconvenient as the other one and I can remove it once a day and replace the tape. However, I have to keep it on for 6 weeks and no guarantee there will be any improvement.
Seemingly my arthritis is quite advanced but so far I am still able to do most things. As long as I can still play tennis I will be quite philosophical about it. Not that anything can be done for it anyway. I think playing the piano is definitely out!
That is quite the splint. Arthritis is a bummer, but like you I will push through.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
The therapist tailored it to my finger so it would fit snugly. Hope it works!
DeleteOuch. Hopefully the 6 weeks will fly by.
ReplyDeleteI will be seriously bummed if I can't hold my tennis racquet!
DeleteThat is quite the splint to wear. You would think that with medical advancement that there would be a medication or two to take to slow the process of arthritis, but as you say, attitude & still the ability to play tennis will keep the blues away.
ReplyDeleteLuckily it is, so far, just affecting my fingers. I am working on keeping all my other joints supple as well as taking Glucosamine and Chondroitine supplements.
DeleteSix weeks sounds like a long time but, if you are able to do the things you love in spite of it the time will go by quickly. I am lucky, no arthritis.
ReplyDeleteI try to eat a lot of oily fish which is supposed to be good for your joints.
DeleteWell, I will keep my fingers crossed that there is indeed some improvement after 6 weeks. It is hard giving up things little by little as we age, isn't it.
ReplyDeleteYou said it, Susanne! It`s very difficult to to give up what you previously took for granted.
