Better Late Than Never

It has been sweltering (32C today) for the last two days but finally my pool is on the way to being ready. I had waited until the Norway Spruce that overlooked it was taken down to have it opened for the summer. Who knew it would be so hot this early?

This was yesterday with the winter cover still on.

The guys arrived early and had the cover off in no time and started draining the pool. The water level was definitely down, so possibly there was a leak in the old liner.

Then they set about checking the walls for damage. It must have been blisteringly hot working in the blazing sun!

Now the new liner is in and the water hose is running to fill it up. That will take until tomorrow so, hopefully, I will be showing the completed process tomorrow!

  1. Shouldn't take long to heat up if the weather continues as is!

    1. Yesterday's temperature of 32C broke a record for May 31 set in 1944!

  2. We are only just starting our pool opening. We get a lot of maple keys/ cedar “leaves” blowing in it, so we cover it with a giant tarp. I’m surprised at how full your pool is when it is winterized! The new liner is great! All blue and shiny! - Jenn

    1. Yes, love the colour! Hope it lasts another 20 years. I was out today skimming keys from a neighbour's tree. In the Fall the water level is just lowered to below the skimmer and return jets to hold the liner in place, so normally not so much water required to top it off. Different this year having to fill the whole thing!

  3. Do you go through this every year? Does it freeze over winter? I love the idea of a pool but it wouldn't get used and the regulations around them are so complicated. Fence heights, gates, locks, and so on. Your pool would not pass muster in our beloved nanny state.

    1. No, this is a once-in-20 years process! Normally the water is just topped up. It doesn't freeze in winter as they add chemicals (probably anti-freeze) to it in the Fall. I have 6 foot high fences all around but no padlocks on the gates.

  4. Oh how I wish we had your weather. We were lucky to reach 16C with cooler high winds. I am so longing for summer.

Your pool looks very inviting. Can't wait to see the full pool.

    God bless.

    1. yes, it is lovely but our season is very short - just June to September and it takes a while to warm up.

  6. Yeah to the opening of the pool. Hopefully we'll get some relief from the +32 temperatures, too hot & humid too fast for me.

    1. I think our bodies need a gradual warm up. At least it's cooler today.
