Cauld Kail (Cold Cabbage)

Another couple of new dances last night - I think Nigel is determined to knock us into shape before we take a break for the holidays. I was so tired by the time I got home, but my legs were throbbing so I had trouble falling asleep. I think I am still rather out of shape after the long time away from dancing. This was one of the new dances we learned.

Not us again, we just had ten brave souls as it was a miserable windy night. This dance, "Cauld Kail" is interesting as it has a change of tempo to make it a medley. First a Strathspey, then a Reel. No idea how it got its name!

  1. It looks as if this dance would be very tiring.... No wonder your legs were throbbing.

    God bless.

    1. In all we learned 4 dances, some of which were familiar, but still hard work.

    1. Learning a new dance involves quite a bit of standing around and walking the dance so not too much actual strenuous activity.

    1. I was fine at the time. It was only after that I realized I'd had a good workout.

  5. I did like the video clip as it brings back lots of memories of Scottish and Country dancing classes in the UK many light years ago. I used to thoroughly enjoy that. Exhausting yes but great exercise and lots of fun. Enjoy Amanda x

  6. Oh that looks like fun. I still fondly remember learning to square dance in kindergarten PE class, and then again later in 7-8th grades. That was at the public school. In my interim years I was at the Catholic grade school, and we only learned to dance the Irish jig as Fr. Burke was Irish.

  7. I bet an Irish jig would be pretty strenuous too!
