A Shock!

I usually grocery shop on a Tuesday but was feeling a bit under the weather earlier week so put it off and went today instead. What a mistake! The place was just full of people - and this was at 8:15 a.m. - and even though it didn't take me any longer to fill my cart, I had a horrendous wait to check out. Usually I'm in and out in around half an hour but it was almost an hour this time. Never again!

Seemingly there are some special discounts on Thursdays (I didn't see any) which is why it was so busy. I am so used to just walking straight up to the cashier early in the morning - I guess I'm spoiled!

Making yogurt overnight tonight in my Instapot. Yum!

  1. It has been abnormally busy here too - it is school half term in our area but the week before was just as busy and like you queues at the checkouts.

  2. Normally early morning is the best (and safest) time to shop. The store opens at 8:00 a.m.

  3. I find the best time to shop is school pickup time!

    1. That's a surprise. I drive by two schools on the way to the store so try to avoid drop off and pick up times.

    2. You have to time it so the parents are at the school not the supermarket!

  4. Apparently all stories experienced a panic shopping event yesterday (Thursday) because of the situation in the Ukraine - especially since fuel prices are rising dramatically, everything will rise in cost, especially already expensive food.

    1. that's stores not stories ... I don't like auto correct!

    2. That could be the explanation. The majority of shoppers seemed to be Oriental, though that wouldn't explain it.

  5. Sr P does most of the shopping but he is as crowd shy as I am so he tries to avoid the busiest times. He usually goes at opening time but I find lunchtime is usually a good time too. I so hate queuing and a busy, busy supermarket isn't my idea of fun! keep well. Amanda x

    1. Thanks, Amanda. I didn't really mind the long queue as I had nowhere I needed to be. But I hadn't had any breakfast so was a bit peckish.

  6. I recently tried adopting Tuesday as my shopping day also, but I am not quite organized enough to only go on Tuesdays. A friend told me years ago that was the best day, at Walmart at least. At my grocery, Wednesday is the first day of the new coupons,so it is always crowded, and of course Thursday and Friday seem to be the stocking for the weekend days, which we really avoid. So Monday or Tuesday are best.

    1. I agree, Susanne. I tried Monday but found the shelves were just in the process of being restocked after the weekend.

  7. I don't go on Thursday as that is when all the specials start. Most weeks they are not the items we usually buy anyway.
    Tuesdays mornings are not busy.

    1. Yes, that's probably the reason. I never bother checking the flyers as usually none of my regular buys are on offer.

  8. Surprisingly I ran out today to pick up a few things and the store I was in was almost empty. Shocking for a Saturday.

    God bless.
