Mix-it-up Sunday

I stopped by the bulk food store the other day and stocked up on all the supplies I needed for the Christmas plum pudding. So today was the day to go into action!

It wasn't a big job and getting in there with my hands made it go faster. But now it's done and dusted and, once it cools off, will be stored in a dry place to mature until Christmas Day. Then I will steam it again for an hour and we will all enjoy its rich goodness!'

The finished product. It weighs 3 and a half pounds!

  1. Oh, wow, that looks so good!
Our Stir Up Sunday is next weekend but I won't be making a pudding this year, of course. I am missing making that and the cake but there's really no point. And there's always next year! xx

    1. You could make one now and save it for a tear. It will really be well cured by then!

  2. I think this will be the star of your Christmas dinner. Will you "feed" in with a brandy glaze between now & Christmas?

    1. I don't usually feed it but it does have a half cup of brandy in it already. Then we flambe it just prior to serving it.

  3. The Christmas pudding looking delicious, I wish I had smell a vision. No one in my family cares for Christmas pudding or fruit cake, so I don't make either.
Last Christmas I did make Sparklingmerlot's boiled Christmas cake and it was delicious. Wanting something sweet and sinfully I just ate the last piece recently. Every once in awhile I would give it a shower of brandy, so think it would survive for a long time by not being frozen.

    1. It's fun and easy to make, this will be my fifty-fifth year making it. I started in 1967 and haven't missed a year since although the recipe has changed a bit!

  5. That looks so good Chris. Never had Christmas pudding, perhaps I should give it a try one year.

    God bless.

    1. I don't have much success with Christmas fruit cake but this is a good substitute.

  6. I am unable to bake this year as the oven in the rental is filthy and very small but I could try steaming a pud. I have never done this before. I saw your comment to Pat and will find the post with the recipe.

    1. I actually prefer the pudding to cake. I serve it with lots of custard.
