Canada Day

Yesterday, July 1st., was Canada Day and I had my flag hanging at my front door to celebrate. Shortly after breakfast I headed to my other tennis club to play a round robin until it started raining. Following a BBQ lunch  there were speeches and prizes (I won a can of tennis balls - very welcome) and we all sang "O, Canada" our national anthem.

I didn't do much in the afternoon and had a light dinner as lunch was pretty hearty. There were fireworks in the evening which I watched on my back deck but one annoying fellow was still setting them off after midnight which was not very neighbourly!

Today, as it was still quite cool in the morning, I had a long walk before breakfast and have been watching Wimbledon ever since. Things are getting interesting! More of the same tomorrow so it has been a very pleasant long weekend so far.

  1. Our Australia Day is 26th January. There are usually bbqs and flags and themed clothing but of late it has been tinged with anger at the way our indigenous people were treated by the colonists back in the day (it wasn't pretty). They call it Invasion day and say we should move the date although noone can pick a date. Do you have anything equivalent with your indigenous?

    1. Yes, we do, earlier this month although I forget the exact date. I'm afraid it's not widely celebrated.

  2. Rain!?! Oh you lucky person, it is so dry that outdoor fires are not prohibited. Canada Day was pretty quiet around here except at night; fireworks on several different nights :(
Congrats on winning a can of tennis balls - how's the finger feeling, still wrapped?

  3. Supposed to rain overnight tonight. I hope you get it too. Finger pretty much fixed, thanks for asking. I have one more visit to the Occupational Therapist later this week.

  4. We have been having small showers most days lately. I am amazed that we only had about an hours rain at the cabin all weekend. Enough to soak the ground. I didn't get to see any fireworks this year which was disappointing.

    God bless.

    1. A steady drizzle today until a couple of hours ago. The grass already looks a bit greener!

  5. So glad you had such a pleasant weekend. Of course, on the 4th we have our own fireworks culprits who just do not know when to quit; in fact, it will be happening off and on the rest of this week. And we're headed into a real heat wave, so we may resort to watching Wimbledon as well. I guess that makes me a foul weather tennis fan?

  6. At least it seems cooler in London and not much rain so that's a good alternative.
