First World Problems

I didn't bother with a walk today as it has been on and off rain almost all day and I had a good long one yesterday. Zoomed with my Bridge friends this afternoon then went on a fruitless trip to bring another friend some yarn for her knitting project - went to the wrong building - but I'll try again tomorrow.

My handyman, God bless him, came yesterday in the rain and patched the place on my roof that lost its shingles to the wind last week. He used the shingles that landed in the yard but will come back to do a more permanent repair later. At least my attic will stay dry until then which is a big relief! I can't believe all the house problems I have had in the past year, just hope that is the end of them. My savings account has taken a beating! I guess I should be happy I had some money put by for emergencies - it wasn't earning much interest anyway!

This was the only tulip from my header photo that survived the rampage of the squirrels!

My neighbour's magnolia tree- it is further along now so I will try for another photo.

    1. Do you get magnolias up your way, Jenn? There are quite a few in my neighbourhood and they are all spectacular right now, along with apple and cherry blossoms. Unfortunately my yard is too small for one as they do get quite large.

  2. That magnolia tree is beautiful. I think this has been a good year for them. Owning a home is both a blessing & a curse (at times) & repairs oh so expensive. I feel for you on the tulip/squirrel situation.

    1. Yes, my bank account is quite a bit lighter today as Ahmet came and did the final repair this afternoon. He is so reliable, I am lucky to have him. Most of my other tulips seem to be surviving.

  3. Oh dear. House problems always seem to occur at once. We are in the middle of a house sale and suddenly several (thankfully minor) problems have all cropped up at the same time. Luckily we are able to sort them out before the sale goes through but it is something we could have done without!

  4. That is one reason I am considering renting in my latter stage if life!

  5. There is always something on a property which needs attention. This year, it is the guttering for mine, then some new windows. It's good you have a decent handyman. X

  6. Houses are a serious investment but it's worth it, I think? I'm happy to have responsibility for my own home and it's definitely a security thing too.

  7. That is a beautiful bloom ... gorgeous colour! Coincidentally we are also considering selling our flat and renting. I always wanted my own place but it is too big for us now (4 bedrooms) and maintenance + housing rates are costly. Nevertheless we have to think about pros and cons in detail :-) keep well Amanda x

  8. Yes, although house prices have risen dramatically here, rents have also almost doubled so it is a tricky decision to make.
