COVID Statistics

Things are getting pretty bad in T.O. (in fact in the whole of Ontario, over 2,000 new cases each day and many more deaths). So we are just hunkered down hoping things will improve. The weather is quite cold so I have had to do without my walks. At least today was sunny so I managed to the drug store. Only allowed out for essential shopping and not many places open. Needing a haircut - luckily I got one just before lockdown was announced but that isn't going to end any time soon. We have all said "goodbye" to Christmas!

Would it be better for our mental health to ignore the data with which we are bombarded each day? I think I would rather not know the number of new infections  but at the very least it serves to keep us on our toes and follow the necessary steps to stay safe. This, too, shall pass!

  1. I sympathize - but yes, today's sunshine did help. I've done the grocery shopping and picked up a few odds & ends. I went to the office today just for an hour or so and that's it - not going back to either the stores or the office until Jan. 3rd!
I'm surprised the big announcement didn't come today - I now suspect they'll announce a complete shut down of southern Ontario on Monday to take effect on midnight Dec. 23rd.
I find that i need to give myself a break from the news occasionally - I often take a Sunday, put some nice music on and spend the day reading.
    Take care.

    1. Ford may decide to wait until after Christmas Day to appease the naysayers!

  2. I find the news very discouraging. Nowadays I tend to go online to the BBC News site and read that, avoiding the TV news entirely. Enough is enough! I'm generally a rule follower, particularly when it concerns not only my own safely, but the safety of others as well.

    1. Me too, Joy, but obviously a great many people are not following the suggested guidelines. I think it needs to be made mandatory.

    1. I think it will be a while until the effects of mass vaccination starts to take effect. I'm not expecting to get the shot until at least April and many will be waiting until September (if then)!

  4. I must admit, I am very careful about any news I listen to.
    Stay well, Chris. X

  5. I feel for you. Our numbers here (about three hours away from you) have put us from green to yellow now. I lugged home two huge bags of resources from work because we were told to "be prepared" in case school will become online learning after the holidays. I hope it isn't a blanket statement for all of Ontario, and that they treat each region separately. Take care! -Jenn

    1. I suspect the dividing line will be north vs. south Ontario - there have been too many instances of people travelling from one region to another for shopping, hair cuts etc. to make anything else worth while.
