Signs of Spring

I keep saying that and then we go back to winter temperatures. Today I reverted to my winter coat for my walk up to the library and was glad of the extra layer. It was windy and spitting rain. We had a nice day on Saturday and a good hour of tennis but more rain is forecast for the rest of the week.

I cut the forsythia back last fall but it has till produced quite a few blooms.

Slightly out of focus buds on the Mountain Ash (Rowan). I can't wait for the trees to green up. They are mostly all still bare. I did see buds on a neighbour's magnolia, that is always one of the early ones.

  1. I am envious of your forsythia. I have tried everything to get mine to bloom, they produce only lots of summer leaves, which are nice, but I planted for the spring bloom! We had a lot of late afternoon fog as the temperature changed. I just hope that the rain doesn't turn to snow! I like the leaves on a Mountain Ash.

    1. The Mountain Ash is outside my kitchen window and the birds, especially Robins, go mad for the berries in the Fall. Very entertaining. Turned out quite nice today after all!

  2. Pruning back often seems to stimulate flowering, I find. What a sunshine plant it is.
I hope your weather picks up. Here it is quite cold (for UK mid April) but we've had some lovely sunshine. It'll warm up soon.

    1. It's sunny here now and quite warm but it was chilly on the tennis courts this morning. At least there was no wind or rain.

  3. I love the splashes of yellow in early Spring, daffodils and forsythia. We have a few dotted around the garden to brighten up the gloomy days.

    1. They are certainly a brilliant colour. Too bad they don't last long.

  5. I think that Mother Nature is a bit confused about things. I guess this pandemic has affected her as well.

    God bless.
