Out With My Camera

A few more things blooming in my garden.

A splash of yellow by the back door. They are just starting to bloom.

This is the later Weigela. It was cut back drastically last year but has rewarded me by producing lots of blooms.

This is a perennial geranium of which I now have three clumps. It took me a while to find spots it likes but it has rewarded me by growing larger each year in all three locations.

Another First

Had to turn on the air conditioning unit today as we were up in the 30's by noon. Unfortunately, I left the walkout partially open when I went for a nap so I was basically cooling the outdoors! Tomorrow will continue very hot but then it is set to cool down a bit over the weekend, thank goodness.

We still don't have much humidity so things cool off considerably overnight. That's when I open all the windows and let nature's cooling system take over. Another dip today and while I was still wet from my swim I watered the veggie patch and some of the borders that are in direct sun. Also filled the bird bath where the robins can have a drink and a paddle. Other than that I have stayed indoors where it is blissfully cool!

The First Dip

I took my first dip in the pool today - it was so refreshing after coming home from my stint in the kitchen at the senior's centre. With the warm weather we have been having recently, it has warmed up considerably and I haven't had to use the heater yet.

Unfortunately it seems to have a slight leak as I have already had to add water twice since it was opened last week. The pool guys noticed it on Monday when they came to clean it and someone from the pool company will come soon to see if they can locate and fix the leak. Let's hope it's something simple. I've had enough pool related expenses already this year!

Slowing Down

My three tennis friends and I are really showing our age! We only managed one set on the tennis court this morning. It was a long one but usually we manage at least two and sometimes three! Admittedly it was hot but we were only playing at half speed and after an hour and a bit decided to call it quits. Kathy (the energizer bunny) would have been happy to play on but Susan was injured - a calf muscle that has been bothering her for the last week - and Cathy and I, being the two oldest were just plain exhausted.

I hope this doesn't spell the demise of our little group. We have cancelled our Thursday booking so won't play again until Sunday. Hopefully Susan's leg will be better by then. I will go to the social at our other club on Friday but, as it is forecast to reach 30C, I won't probably play long then either. We have stayed together through thick and thin (and Covid) so it would be very sad to end the partnership.
