March definitely came in like a lion here yesterday - snow squalls, high winds - and today has stayed sunny but very cold. Wouldn't it be wonderful if, according to folk lore, the month goes out like a lamb with some mild, balmy weather? We can only hope!
Our neighbouring region of York started booking appointments for shots to the over 80's today and there were pictures on the news of the seniors standing in long lines in the frigid weather. Not good planning on someone's part! At least by the time my turn comes the weather will, in all likelihood, have improved or I will be very reluctant to make an appointment.
I managed a walk this morning and on my way back, ran into a friend whom I haven't seen in some time. We stopped and chatted for a while, getting caught up on this and that (we used to work together), but by the time we had exhausted our conversation, I was chilled to the bone. It was pleasant enough out today with the sun shining as long as I was moving but I quickly cooled down while standing. It took a hot bowl of soup and half an hour in bed with my book to warm me up!
I believe our 70's and 80's are all done now. It is very surprising to me that given this virus is a world wide problem every country is doing their own thing and there is no coming together or unity towards the solution. Britain is quite ahead and might be well covered first for the vaccine roll out but how will that help when other countries are way behind us. Any of the countries can produce a deadly mutation in the meantime and any one person can carry this and spread it - after all that is how it all started in the first place.
ReplyDeleteMaybe the lesson in all this is that we are one world with no boundaries when it comes to the virus and we should have all come together to beat it. It is cold again here - bone chilling weather as you say.
We don't have any facilities here for manufacturing the vaccine - our Astra Zeneca shots are coming from India!
DeleteAll very lamb like here. Not that warm but several degrees above zero at worst and the sun has been most welcome.
ReplyDeleteVaccines are rolling out surprisingly swiftly here, thankfully. As Viv implied above, the over 60s are now starting to get done and next month my Dad should get his second vaccine. Mine is due in May.
Hot soup and reading in a warm bed sounds absolute bliss, whether necessary or not.
xx
There's some talk here of withholding the second shot until everyone has the first one.
DeleteI feel for those people waiting in the cold for the vaccine, such a shame. Thankfully both my husband and I have had ours and are awaiting the 2nd vaccine, with no waiting outside. It as done in a large hotel in town. Take care and stay warm.
ReplyDeleteDon't know why they had to wait outside - it seems cruel and unusual punishment!
DeleteCame in like a lamb here. Beautiful sunny weather, the little snow we have is quickly leaving. Pretty sure that this weather will not last and March will be exiting like a lion here in Saskatchewan.
ReplyDeletePretty sure the weather will be so much nicer by the time I get my vaccine. I am still amazed at how many swear they will not get vaccinated. I just don't understand.
God bless.
Haven't heard too much here about not wanting the shot - most people are desperate to get it!
DeleteI like your remedy to getting warm again. Nice to catch up with someone you use to work with. I was told that if March comes in like a lion the rest of the month will be fine ... we can only hope.
ReplyDeleteCertainly today was very Spring-like!
DeleteOur vaccine procedure in New Mexico is a complete disaster. We suddenly have had unseasonably cold weather again, but once that breaks, March will indeed be like a lamb, a very warm lamb! I like your solution to getting chilled - soup and reading in bed!
ReplyDeleteIt didn't take me long to get warmed up!
DeleteThey are using football stadiums and theatres here in some cities to do the vaccinating. Still it continues to be slow in Spain and once again AstraZeneca has not handed over the full amount of vaccine supplies promised on contract which have been paid for, to the EU! I have to agree with other comments here and most particularly wherethejourneytakesme's. This should be a worldwide project; all patents of vaccines should be public and not private and no profit should be obtained from vaccine sales. Hot soup, warm bed and book sounds just right to me :-) Keep well Amanda x
ReplyDeleteIt was the frail senior waiting in line in frigid weather for hours that really bothered me.
