'Tis That Time of Year

I don't usually start to think about Christmas until December arrives but, last week, I received my first Christmas card. We are now in the midst of a postal strike so it may very well be the only one I receive!

Just to confirm Christmas is not far off, yesterday was the first of several Christmas meals - the retired teachers' luncheon complete with turkey, stuffing and cranberry sauce  and very good it was, too! After the meal we were entertained by the "Enchanted Flutes" who played a medley of seasonal tunes and had us singing along to several. One of our members belongs to the troupe which includes several semi-professional musicians. It is always so uplifting to be entertained in this way each Christmas season.

Today the weather continues to be quite unseasonably mild (long may it continue!) so I walked to the Seniors' Centre for my Fitness class. I dodged a bullet as it rained while I was there but was just drizzling by the time I headed home. I have racked up 8,700 steps so far today!

  1. The 1st of December is when I usually start thinking about Christmas. The parades and seasonal activities start much too soon, some on Nov 12th in this area. The stores usually start displaying Christmas decorations etc. a lot earlier
The weather is not in it's seasonal mode, which is quite alright for me, however, we all know it can change within a heart beat. Yesterday it was very foggy up until noon, then cleared with lovely sunshine most of the afternoon then heavy rain as it was getting dark.
Pleased to read your luncheon and entertainment was enjoyed by all.

  2. I haven’t been able to comment on several blogs, yours included, for ages but today I can. I am with you on December being the start of Christmas, and possibly it’s mid December before I do anything about it. There were Christmas cakes in the shops before we went away in September fortunately Italy doesn’t enter into the madness so early though some places never take the Christmas lights down, just turn them off.

    1. I will put up some lights in a week or two and then I might feel more like Christmas!

  3. My goodness, you are certainly getting your steps in. I am thinking of putting the tree up at the end of next week.

    God bless.

    1. Today I forgot to wear my step counter so am at virtually zero! I won't put up my tree for at least another three weeks.

  4. The unseasonal, wet days aren't helping. Along with the flu hitting us hard. Hoping to get in the mood soon!

    1. It's still pretty mild here - I was out raking leaves this afternoon as some of the trees have been pretty slow in shedding their leaves.

  5. I've started feeling a little more festive these last few days, and I bought my Christmas cards this weekend. We're experiencing Storm Bert at the moment, so you can imagine how wet I got, going into the town. Xx
