The weather cooperated for our penultimate day on the tennis courts. I went well dressed but was soon peeling off layers as the dull conditions morphed into glimpses of sun and people started to trickle in. I managed to pull off some decent rallies and played with people I don't normally see at the week day drop ins.
Then it was a pot luck lunch (I brought a cole slaw) and there was a good assortment of tasty dishes followed by a lucky draw. There's another pot luck tomorrow for the last day before the summer club is turned over to the city to run the winter program under a bubble. I don't join (too expensive) and will just have to pack away my racquet and bide my time until next May. Tomorrow will be a smaller crowd, just the retirees and seniors, but it will be a chance to say our goodbyes until Spring.
Sunday was the turkey feast with the family - SIL cooks the bird on the BBQ and very fine it was with all the trimmings. We ate around noon and I didn't eat again until a small sandwich just before bed! Judy made sour dough bread to go with her butternut squash soup, both excellent, and the turkey was accompanied by quinoa and squash salad, green beans, stuffing, gravy and (for the lone vegetarian, the other grandma) stuffed acorn squash. I did indulge in a small glass of wine before the meal, and stuck to (non-alcoholic) cider with the turkey as I was driving. Later, when we had had a chance to digest all that good food, there was pumpkin pie with whipped cream and coffee to finish.
Phew! It makes me tired just writing about all that food. Needless to say I needed a nap when I got home. It will take me a week to work off all those extra calories!
I am always blown away by people who play tennis!! I don't think I've ever had that much energy at one time to chase a ball. hey, wait a minute. I chased three/four kids at a time. Does that count?
ReplyDeleteIt certainly does! The weather didn't cooperate, warm enough but the courts were too wet from overnight rain. But we had our pot luck lunch anyway.
DeleteMy goodness, you have enjoyed a wonderful weekend full of food and fellowship. Good for you.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Hi Chris, it sounds like you had a lovely day! I had to smile when you were talking about your turkey feast . I was on another woman's blog who is from Canada and she was wishing everyone a happy Thanksgiving. Since I live in the states ours is not until November and I literally thought I had lost a whole month! These senior moments are just beginning for me and they come out of no where. :) I am 63 years old and I live with my husband and mother in law, in rural Georgia. There is a beautiful hundred acre wood behind our house and the nearest town is about 30 miles away. I live a quiet life but like you I am active with all sorts of interests. I just recently restarted my blog after being away for awhile. I write about all kinds of things, my craft projects, stories encouraging quotations, poetry, stories, recipes. Pretty much a little of everything. Autumn is my favorite time of year it is probably in full swing where you live. Here in Georgia it is a little more subtle we won't see the colors in our trees until mid to late November. That's when we get our first real chill to the air. We had a big hurricane pass not too far from us over the weekend and had lots of rain and that has cooled things a bit. It was nice visiting with you and I look forward to reading more of your posts. Have a lovely evening ahead!
